On the very first day of filming, David Alan Grier was injured on the set of Da Booty Queen. Details are sketchy at this point, but according to SlashFilm, it seems to be only a minor injury caused by a malfunctioning chair, and is probably not a serious injury, praise the lord.
The production of this film has been marred since the beginning, due to protests, actors dropping out or avoiding involvement, and drunken comments made while exiting a Los Angeles sushi restaurant. At least this one can go on the blooper reel!

One week before filming begins, actor Richard Laughlain “Lochlyn” Munro has dropped out of Da Booty Queen. The actor has appeared in such films as Daddy Day Camp, Dracula 2000, and Wayans flicks Scary Movie, White Chicks, and Little Man.
He reportedly dropped out to join the Pacific Repertory Theatre and portray Oberon in their production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Unlike Queen Latifah and Damon Wayans distancing themselves from the upcoming film due to the subject matter, Munro does not object to the film’s premise, accoding to a quote in Variety:
“I had a tough choice to make, but I think I made the right choice. I love those guys, and the script was hilarious, but they are going to find somebody else to play a retarded weightlifter. I’m going to be too busy playing Oberon.”
As mentioned in the article, the character was supposed to display his “retard strength” in a fight scene.

On their suprise appearance on TRL, Shawn & Marlon were tight-lipped about the plot of their upcoming film, Da Booty Queen, however they did reveal the film’s tagline:
“Damn, baby might be retarded, but she sure got booty!”
Shawn Wayans also supported their co-star, Brad Garrett on his latest drunken comments made while exiting a Los Angeles sushi house.
“Brad is a good guy, and everybody says things that they don’t mean when they’re drunk. He apologized, he’s sorry, and it’s time to move on people. Let the man be.”
Marlon also made some hilarious comments on the hirsute actor:
“That dude is one hairy muthaf—a! I know I’m not the only guy that thinks that. When he takes his shirt off, I’m thinkin’ damn, Bigfoot’s on the run!”
Shawn & Marlon, along with Garrett, Gabrielle Union, and Anthony Anderson will star in the film, scheduled for release sometime next year. Filming will begin next week in Hollywood.

Youree Harris, Cheri Oteri, David Alan Grier, Lochlyn Munro, and several other Wayans family members have been added to the film’s IMDB page.
Youree Harris is listed as playing Mama Williams, who will most likely be the mother of Shawn & Marlon, who typically play brothers onscreen. Oteri & Grier are rumored to play the pageant judges, along with Anthony Anderson, who will play judge Lamonte “Jenkins” Jenkins.
The other Wayans in the film will include Kim, Nadia, Elvira, Michael, Damien Dante, Cara Mia, Craig, and Damon Jr., whose father avoided any connection to the film due to the storyline dealing with the mentally handicapped.
Other notes include that Shawn and Marlon Wayans will be playing Sean and Marlin Williams. Gabrielle Union will play the character of Sasha Brown, which will most likely be a love interest for either Shawn or Marlon’s character in the film. The controversial Brad Garrett will play Fred Highpants, whose character will probably wear high-waisted pants.

From CNN:
Actor Brad Garrett made a satellite appearance on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday in which he offered a brief explanation and an apology for the comments made to photographers while exiting a Los Angeles sushi restaurant.
The show’s scheduled guest was Garrett’s Everybody Loves Raymond co-star Ray Romano, who brought Garrett on via sattelite to explain and apologize for his comments.
“For me to be leaving a sushi joint and say this crap, I’m deeply, deeply sorry,” said Garrett, who played Romano’s eccentric brother Robert on the hit sitcom. “I didn’t mean to say those things. I was drunk. That’s what’s so insane about this,” he added, his tone becoming angry and frustrated as he defended himself.
Garrett will be playing the “whitey who wants to get in touch with his black side” in the upcoming Wayans Brothers film, Da Booty Queen, which features a character pretending to be mentally challenged.

After details of the controversial plot of Da Booty Queen, involving a character pretending to be mentally challenged, emerged, it was only a matter of time before certain groups spoke out against the film.
Today, protests began by mentally disabled groups such as The Special Olympics and AAPD at Sony Pictures Studios, the studio behind Da Booty Queen. Accounts of small groups picketing in front of the studio gates were reported.
A similar occurence occured with the film Tropic Thunder, which didn’t affect the film’s performance in the box office. However, rumblings this early are not a good sign for the film’s future.
Recent comments made by one of the film’s stars, (a possibly inebriated) Brad Garrett, have drawn negative attention towards the project. While exiting a sushi retaurant in Los Angeles two days ago, Garrett had this to say about the film:
“Everybody wants to be politically correct these days, but what’s funny is a guy in a dress pretending to be a retard.”
Andrew J. Imparato, president of the American Association of People With Disabilities group, said the potential plot of the movie sounds “tasteless” and called Garrett’s recent comments “offensive.” Neither Garrett nor the Wayans Brothers have yet publicly commented on the incident.

Unlikely star of Da Booty Queen, Brad Garrett, had a few somewhat suprising things to say to paparazzi after coming out a Los Angeles sushi house last night, concerning the controversial plot of the film (via TMZ):
“Look, these ’brothas’ know funny. I know funny. I’ve been a stand-up comedian since before most of you [paparazzi] were born, and I’ve been on a show that won s–tloads of Emmys. Everybody wants to be politically correct these days, but what’s funny is a guy in a dress pretending to be a retard. I don’t care who you are, what color your skin is, or if you’re a queer or not. That is some funny stuff.”
For those who are a bit suprised that the usually family-friendly sitcom star would say some questionable comments like that, might be interested to know what he shouted out of his car as he drove off:
“I should have got a–want to get a taxi, because I am sauced!”
As this film gets closer to release, it should be interesting to see what kind of controversy this film will cause in Hollywood.

Damon Wayans had some interesting comments to make on the upcoming Wayans Brothers flick, Da Booty Queen. He seemed urged to let people know that he will not be involved in the film made by his three other brothers, and a bit of that may have to do with the title. Here’s Damon in his own words, as quoted by Entertainment Weekly:
“Are you kidding? No roles, no cameos, no nothing. I love them, but I also love having a career.”
He continues, giving a little insight to the film’s plot:
“You know why it’s called “Da Booty Queen,” right? It’s cause the character Marlon is playing is pretending to be mentally challenged. They wanted to call it Duh Booty Queen, but the studio rejected it. I’m surprised that it’s gotten this far. I love my brothers, but I’ll wait until they make another White Chicks or something.”
Mentally challenged? It’s hard to tell if Damon is joking, because it doesn’t seem to fit in with the plot of the film. However, this doesn’t seem like the typical Wayans Brothers project. We have been promised a “shocking” and “offensive” film, and Queen Latifah wanted to distance herself from having any involvement with the film. We’ll stay tuned to this developing story.

Marlon Wayans has spoken! According to his MySpace profile, the name of the film will not be “Booty Queen” but actually Da Booty Queen. Why? Here’s Marlon:
the movie wont be called booty queen. it’s DA booty queen. not like in the hip-hop sense but more like “duuuh, booty queen!”
While his explanation is a bit vague, a title is a title. Da Booty Queen it is!

The news about this film just keeps getting more and more interesting. Now, the hunky star of Everybody Loves Raymond, Brad Garrett is the latest announced star for the film. According to various sources, he will portray a “whitey who wants to get in touch with his black side” and will be a friend to Shawn & Marlon in the film. No word yet on when Booty Queen will begin shooting.
